Our Mission
Colla
Voce is a group of musicians dedicated to worship
and leading in worship. Our
focus is the enrichment of the human spirit and the fellowship
of Christian believers through performing sacred choral music
spanning six centuries and written
for the glory of God.
Colla
Voce supports local church music programs, provides
a non-denominational worship opportunity, and welcomes experienced
musicians from all Christian traditions.
Our History
Colla
Voce gave its
first performance on September 10, 2002, in commemoration
of the first anniversary of September 11. The
28-voice choral ensemble was drawn from members of churches in
the Birmingham
area. The program
featured selections from sacred choral repertoire focusing on
the themes of the celebration of life, God's faithfulness, and
a remembrance of the lost.
Colla
Voce reorganized and incorporated
in 2005 after members of the original group expressed interest
in giving regular concerts. The
newly re-formed Colla
Voce began its first three-concert season in the Fall
of 2005 with a program entitled A
Musical Chrismon, celebrating the symbols of Christmas. Each
season since has featured theme-centered programs, each including
hymn singing and music celebrating the goodness and grace of God.
Our Founder
Mr.
Todd Norton was the founder and first Artistic Director of Colla
Voce. Todd
viewed his faith as the driving force in all of his musical endeavors
and considered his founding Colla
Voce as a personal calling.
Todd holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Auburn University
and a Master of Music degree from The University of Colorado.
He taught music for several years at the elementary, high school,
and community college levels.
At the conclusion of the 2010-11 season, Todd resigned his leadership
of Colla Voce in order to spend more time with his wife
Jennifer and their two children, John Mark and Emma.
